THE SECOND INTERMEDIATE RUNNING GROUP – JAN 2013
The second Intermediate Running Group (IRG) will commence on Wednesday 30 January 2013 in Riddells Creek. The IRG is a 12-week training program aimed at runners who have completed the SRG milestone of running 10km non-stop or for anyone who is already running long distances and would like to join in and train within a group environment.
Training is every Wednesday and Friday nights at 6pm and Sunday mornings at 8am at Riddells Creek Lions Park carpark (opposite Foodworks). Steve and Lisa Cole are excited leaders and have put a 12-week interval training program together for IRG participants that includes hill work, strides/speed work, tempo and long distance running.
The IRG’s goal is to participate in the Macedon Ranges 15km CHALLENGE run on Sunday 21 April 2013. For more information and to receive updates and event information click on the following link and LIKE the Facebook page – http://www.facebook.com/pages/Macedon-Ranges-Challenge-Run/312041555508152

THE FIRST INTERMEDIATE RUNNING GROUP – FEB 2012
The first Intermediate Running Group (IRG) for the Macedon Ranges Running Club (MRRC) has been launched in Riddells Creek on Monday and Wednesday nights at 6pm and Saturday mornings at 7am. The IRG has already attracted 30 participants eager to complete an 11-week training program with the goal of running 15km non-stop on 29 April 2012 (see details of the Macedon Ranges Challenge run below). The MRRC plans to roll out IRGs in Macedon, Gisborne and Woodend in the second half of 2012. IRG volunteer leaders, Angella Graham and Stephen Cole, are currently studying Certificate 3&4 in Personal Training and have a huge passion for running. They will support and encourage runners to extend their running through interpreting the various interval training sessions (sprints, strides, tempo and hill training) that the 11 week IRG program encompasses. On Sunday 29 April 2012 there’s an opportunity to run for MS and other causes at the GREAT Macedon Ranges Challenge Run. This years’ major sponsor GREAT (Gisborne Region Events Activities and Tourism Association) has teamed up with the Rotary Club of Gisborne to raise awareness and provide much needed funds for MS research. A large contribution of funds raised will be directed to MS projects via the Rotarian Action Group for Multiple Sclerosis Awareness in association with MS Australia and the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund.
The running event is a spectacular 15km undulating/hill course at the foothills of the majestic Mount Macedon that the IRG participants are aiming to conquer. They will experience a wide variety of running surfaces, starting at Riddells Creek taking in breathtaking views and scenic state forest landscapes and finishing at New Gisborne Steam Park. There are marshals and drink stations on the course as well as a sumptuous BBQ, fresh sandwiches and cakes at the end of the run organised by the Gisborne Rotary Club.
This is an opportunity for you to make a difference. Anyone can register for the 2012 GREAT Macedon Ranges CHALLENGE event and run for a world without MS. Maps and comprehensive training programs are available on the website for beginner and intermediate runners.
All participants can park their cars and register at the Steam Park in New Gisborne (map and direction on website) at 8.30am where buses will take runners to the starting line. Early bird registrations are $30 before 18 March and $40 after that date. Registrations can be made online at www.gisbornerotary.org.au or call Kevin Mortimer on 0423-731-297 for more information.
